The New Zealand $50 dollar note has a Kokako on one side and on the other side there is Sir Apirana. Sir Apirana was a governer.Sir Apirana played a significant role in the revival of Maori people and culture during the early years of the twentieth century. He was the first Maori to graduate from a New Zealand university, and an elected Member of Parliament for 38 years. The Kokako is a large native bird with a distinctive steel-grey body and a black face `mask'. The variety pictured on the note is the South Island kokako. Kokako are much larger than a tui, and prefer to hop up trees to gain enough height to be able to glide. They seldom fly further than 100 metres.

Vampire Squid Fotobabble!
I read a story about deep sea creatures for a reading activity. I thought that the Vampire Squid was the most interesting so I did a Fotobabble about it. My Fotobabble includes many interesting facts about the Vampire Squid.

Fiji
About 1 week ago, my family and I went on a holiday to Plantation Island Fiji.
To get to Fiji we took a small plane to Auckand, from Auckland we took a HUGE plane to Nadi Fiji. When we were in Nadi we took a bus to were we were going to take a boat. The boat we took to Plantation Island the boat we went on was called the Malolo Cat.
Finally we arrived at Plantation Island after a long day of traveling, the sun was setting and it was getting dark. When we got to our room we unpacked then had a short night time swim in one of the 3 pools. The pool we swam in was a pool that had a little island in the middle that you could swim to then hop on the island. The other 2 pools are the pool thats really deep and the pool that has a blue slide leading into it then becomes deep slowly.
When I was in Fiji we also did a snorkling trip and a fishing trip. We did the snorkling trip 2 times since it was so amazing! There was so many fish and they were all different colours. The fishing trip was really fun but sadly no one from my family caught a fish!
I was surprised at how hot it is in Fiji, about 30 to 40 degrees at lest every day! I was also surprised at how warm the Ocean and pools were! It was funny beacuse the Ocean seemed warmer then the pools and the pools were pretty warm!!! It was cool every night beacause there was always something on so you would never get bord, some of things were, Frog race, Crab race, Hip-pop and beatboxing performance (which my mum was picked out of the aduiende to take part in), MrPlantation Island and much more! It was sad when the day we had to leave came but its good beacause we will be back there soon!
